Your path to Ultasound Competency

Introduction

Sonosession has created a comprehensive learning path for Physicians interested in adding OB GYN Ultrasound to their scope of service. We combine online video lectures with hands-on scanning instruction, which provides a framework for acquiring and interpreting ultrasound images. We understand that this skill develops over time, which is why our program includes ongoing support. Once you enroll in our program, you will have access to one of our instructors throughout your learning journey.

Hands-on Ultrasound Workshop + Introduction to OB GYN Online Course

The first step is to enroll in one of our monthly workshops or schedule an onsite training at your location. The Introduction to OB GYN Ultrasound course is included and available immediately. You can begin learning right away. When you arrive to one of our hands-on workshops you already have a foundation in place. We systematically instruct you on how to locate, identify and capture diagnostic images for gyn and obstetric ultrasound exams.

We host monthly workshops in Monterey, California and Asheville, North Carolina. These are intimate workshops with only four students and an instructor. We begin with non-gravid pelvic scanning. This includes transvaginal and transabdominal scanning techniques. Building on these skills, we move to the first trimester, then second and third. There is room for individual instruction during your time with the patient. Practitioners arrive with different skills and objectives, so we can focus on your goals while you are scanning.

Course Objectives

  • Recognize basic ultrasound artifacts

Step 1: Select your Hands-On Workshop Location

You can come to one of our beautiful locations or we can come to you. The online course material is included when you enroll.

Step 2: Textbook + Additional Lectures

Our textbook is an excellent resource to accompany the online lectures and prepare you for the POCUS Ultrasound Certification exam.

Step 3: Put it into practice

There are sections in your online course material called “Put it into Practice”. Here we instruct you on how to practice the skills you learned in the hands-on workshop. It is important to start scanning immediately after the course! This way you will solidify the methods you learned in class. The flow will take time but soon you will be doing it automatically. We are here to help you along this journey.

Step 4: Case Review + Archive

As you begin to complete cases, we suggest keeping a record of them and conducting an internal review with colleagues. This is a great way to track progress and ensure accurate interpretation and diagnosis. We are happy to review any cases with you. If you are interested in obtaining certification through the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy, you will be well on your way to meeting the 25-case requirement for certification.
